Missed By a Hair

Filed under: Phil Spector, The Legal Edge — mbryant @ 7:52 am

Of course if talking about Phil Spector’s hair a miss is as good as a mile. For those who read only headlines…We did not get enough PS2 fans to pledge their allegiance to a TLE production of the music producer’s re-trial.

We tried. We wish we had longer to get the word out. The hundreds of folks we got to commit in five days might have blossomed into the number we needed (1000) but we are out of time. I will be calling Judge Fidler this morning to officially bow out.

Thanks to all who tried to rally the troops. I believe there is still hope for Openings, Closings and Verdict to be televised but there has been no official word on that yet.

TLE is moving on. The two trials we were considering have been moved into 2009, so the pickings are slim but we’re lining up the best of the rest. And construction continues on our new features so keep an eye out for more as The Legal Edge Network works to become the place for all things legal.

  1. Michel,
Thanks for your email, but in my humble opinion, you didn’t give this enough time. You could use all the funds you would have spent on any other trials for the rest of this year toward launching the Spector II coverage, and then after it began, I’m sure you could have gotten many more who would want to pay to watch. Especially since you state that your goal was missed by only a “hair”. It’s still early out there in CA, so please reconsider. The word has not had a chance to spread on the Internet, due to lack of a centralized voice, and I don’t know if people knew there was such a short time frame to let you know. Did I miss that information?
    Thanks again and please reconsider,
    Lindsey B.

  4. How about trying for the Casey Anthony trial- IMO this will be a great one
    Sorry about the PS2 trial.
While *I* and some others would gladly have paid I do understand the economy just might have prevented many from signing

  5. So sorry to hear you can’t make it work. You get an “A” for effort. I hope you are going to attend the trial and blog for us. You did a great job with the oj trial. Have you heard that oprah has a new book out but she is too good to make the rounds and sent gayle king out on the road to do it for her!! I am looking forward to watching your next trials.

  7. There are hundreds of live trials right now in the United States. Move on, Casey Anthony trial is too far down the road. Your idea is great, so let’s all support A LIVE TRIAL on TLC next week..

  8. Thank you for the attempt to get PS2! I think that you guys are the only ones to show gavel to gavel trials, which I love! I will support and/or pay for any trials that you can air!

  9. Thanks for trying, MB!!!

Although I am extremely sad over this, i am as equally excited to see what TLE becomes once the word IS out. The sky is the limit for you MB!

I agree with others…just give us a live trial, haha any trial, we arent picky.

  11. Thanks for trying to make this happen. I have a question concerning a statement in your blog. “I believe there is still hope for Openings, Closings and Verdict to be televised but there has been no official word on that yet.”
Are you referring to KTLA? If so, didn’t the Judge Fidler say in court that he has approved their application for TV coverage? Honestly, I don’t expect to see them changing their line-up to cover this trial but assume they will provide limited coverage online. I have tried to help spread the word via my blog and expect someone may ask what you were referring to.
    Sincerely,
    A Fan

  12. The fact that you cannot find a decent trial for the rest of the year makes it even more of a puzzle that Legal Edge…ALL THINGS LEGAL…..won’t cover it just because it is the best available at this time.

  13. Thanks for giving it a try, Michel — but since it’s a ‘no’ let’s just move on and get hooked up with
    another doable live trial.

  14. Thank you for trying! Just being listened to is a novelty for trial watchers, we don’t usually register at all. You went out of your way to help and I am grateful.

  15. Thank You MJB,

Yes, we are let down but nothing can keep my spirits bottled up for long. I still have to keep the faith. After all we are getting PS back in the courtroom again and as Justice for Lana will be carried out, my hope for some kind of media attention to this trial will rise to the top also.

You have been a real friend to the dedicated trial addict and we will not forget your kind and considerate attitude to include us again in the real life
    drama of PS2

  16. Yes, Michel, thanks for trying. I am confused however, that you say that you have no new trials coming up. Doesn’t that leave a gap that could have been filled with SpectorII since it would not be taking the place of the multiple trials that you mentioned wanting to do rather than focus on a long term single trial? Is it because you need to “piggyback” with another source for pool coverage? I admit I’m not at all familiar with the technicalities that would be required, if that is the reason. My curiosity requires me to ask who among newspaper editors and television producers makes the decision on what trials to cover and what criteria is used to make that decision? Who determined that there would not be enough interst in Spector II and what did they base it on? We trial watchers gather like moths to a flame and will no doubt watch whatever is served to us, but in this case, there was clearly a preference expressed. Only you listened.

You also alluded to the Halverson trial in Las Vegas in an earlier message. I think that the hearing attracted a large audience and the trial for this bizarre case would surely do so as well. When is it scheduled and will you be covering that one?

  17. Hi Michel and TLE crew! Of course, I am disappointed that Spector cannot be the next trial on TLE. BUT, I am holding steadfast and will continue to visit and support TLE. Your coverage and accompanying videos of the Oj trial were super! The exclusive with OJ was awesome! You guys are appreciated by all and I look forward to the “next” trial!
